We know this might be your first time in Wisconsin…
…and we’re so grateful that you’re making the trip . We’ve put together a guide below with more information about the area. From fly fishing to vintage shopping and cheese tasting, there’s a lot to enjoy if you want to take the time.
The Driftless Area
The Driftless Area is a region in southwestern Wisconsin known for its rolling hills, winding rivers, and quiet valleys. Unlike much of the Midwest, this landscape wasn’t flattened by glaciers thousands of years ago, which is why it’s full of bluffs, ridgelines, and curving country roads.
You will likely be staying in or around Spring Green. It’s a small, adorable town about 45 minutes outside of Madison. It’s famously the home of Frank Lloyd Wright’s studio, Taliesin, which you can visit!
Below is a list of attractions in the area.
Attractions
American Players Theater (APT)
Enjoy APT for it’s 45th season. See a live show in the outdoor Hill Theatre or the smaller Touchstone Theatre. Susan (Joy’s aunt) lived on the grounds of APT back in 1971 and 1972.

Visit this natural wonder in Blue Mounds, WI. Tour the 400-million year old geologic formations in this underground cave.
Frank Lloyd Wright Visitor Center and Taliesin
Explore the home, studio and 800-acre property of architect Frank Lloyd Wright. The tour includes buildings from almost every decade of Wright’s career. Taliesin means “shining brow” and is an homage to Wright’s Welsh heritage.
House on the Rock
This iconic WI museum began in 1945 when Alex Jordan built an awe-inspiring, imaginative retreat. The museum has evolved to include displays of the exotic, unusual and amazing.
